Hubby Talks: What Caused Infidelity in Our Marriage [Affair Proof]

We’ve recently rebranded the podcast to Rebuilding Us, and I’m thrilled to dive into this incredibly personal episode, where my hubby, Shaun, and I openly discuss our story of infidelity and the subsequent journey of rebuilding our marriage. In this episode, we opened up about our own experiences with betrayal and the tough but transformative process of piecing our relationship back together. We felt it was important to share our stories because we believe in the power of vulnerability and honesty when it comes to healing your marriage.

We also discussed the aftermath of infidelity and the journey of rebuilding trust and connection. It wasn’t easy, and we didn’t shy away from sharing the raw emotions and challenges we faced. We’ve learned that transformative change comes from making proactive decisions to address addictive behaviors, as well as the power of honesty and communication in rebuilding trust.

Understanding Yourself and Your Core Needs

One of the key messages we emphasized in the episode is the importance of understanding oneself before entering into a relationship. We spoke about the need for self-awareness and setting boundaries to prevent heartache down the road. Both of us shared deeply personal experiences and delved into how our unmet needs and the lack of boundaries led to infidelity in our marriage.

Shaun, especially, talked about how he didn’t know who he was before marriage. He allowed other people to define him and that influenced how he behaved. When you look for others to validate you, you’re setting yourself up for a fall. No one can meet all of your needs, so be careful about putting that much pressure on your spouse.

Bring Your Temptations Into the Light

As we reflected on our own experiences, we stressed the significance of addressing struggles and temptations in the light to avoid isolation and the influence of negative forces. By being open and aware of our triggers, we are now able to take early actions to prevent potential temptations from developing into something further.

Your Faith Will Make You Whole

Throughout the episode, we emphasized the significance of our faith and how, as Christians, we must live by another standard. We are not our own. We spoke about the role our faith played in acknowledging our unfaithfulness, not only to each other but also to God. Our faith has been an integral part of our healing process, adding depth and strength to our commitment to rebuilding our relationship.

We’re both honored to share the tools and insights we’ve gained over the years to help others navigate the painful path of adultery. Our hope is that by sharing our own experiences, we can offer a beacon of hope and guidance to those facing similar challenges. We’re committed to being a source of support and inspiration, and we look forward to continuing to provide practical guidance and wisdom in future episodes in this series on affair-proofing your marriage.
